Evergreen Park is surrounded on three sides by Chicago city neighborhoods. It shares border streets with Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Ashburn, on the southwestern edge of Chicago. Located just seven miles from Chicago's Midway Airport, this suburb is a quick train ride away from the downtown scene. A simple hop on the Metra will take you right to the heart of the city, where the nightlife, shopping and culinary happenings never seem to stop.
Like many of Chicago's suburbs, Evergreen Park has grown over the years to a viable living destination. It has a population of around 20,000 with half a dozen public schools and a solid housing market. Close to Chicago's impressive cultural center, but far enough outside the city limits to escape the noise, lights and congestion, Evergreen Park is a prime place for anyone who wants to be near the action but enjoys the smaller town comforts of suburban life.
Currently, the Historical Commission of Evergreen Park is working on preserving its community's rich cultural history. The organization is split into four separate groups to better focus their efforts: Preservation and Landmarks; Museum and Archives; Historical Book; and Fundraising and Development. The commission is getting the whole community involved, asking residents of the area to send in any photos they have of their beloved village.

Evergreen Parkers may depend on Chicago for cosmopolitan inspiration, but don't think for a second this quiet tree-lined suburb doesn't have an entertainment scene of its own. For starters, check out Yukich Field (90th Street and Kedzie Avenue). This is where you’ll find the village's open-air farmer's market from June through October. The picturesque area is lined with walking paths, inviting you to take a stroll after loading up on all those seasonal goodies from local vendors. And, on special nights during the summer, Yukich field hosts the Outdoor Film Festival with showings of beloved big-screen hits. The village also has a community center where you can relax in the classic gazebo or hike it over to the Evergreen Country Club (9140 S Western, 773-238-6680), where there's always a group of business professionals and leisurely golfers teeing up for a round of 18 at the par 72 course.
