How about a night at the theater? There are over 120 troupes currently in Chicago. You can find everything from classic plays to recent Broadway sensations. There's also community, comedy, musical, and experimental theaters. There are shows playing every night of the week.
With such a wide array of genres to pick from, it shouldn't be hard to find something that appeals to you. If you like to laugh, visit Second City. If you are into musicals, go to the Oriental Theatre. If you're looking for something a little off the wall, check out the Blue Man Group.
In addition to all the big name attractions, there are many smaller venues that put on excellent shows. It's not surprising to see some of the local productions move up the ladder to become big time hits.
Chicago is also privy to exclusive showings. Many times shows will have a limited running here before they premiere on Broadway in New York. So, if you're lucky you might be able to see the next hot ticket before it becomes hot.
There is also a wide assortment of community and experimental theater. If you want to stop being on the sidelines and want to step into the limelight, there are plenty of opportunities to participate in a local theater production. If you're not ready to get on stage quite yet, many theaters offer classes on acting and stage craft.
The theater scene in Chicago is diverse and plentiful. If you are interested the must-sees, you should have no trouble at all finding something to watch. In addition to the performance itself, many theaters have beautiful exteriors and interiors that can be quite engaging.
