Highways and Road Information In Chicago

Taking to the road? At times, traffic can be horrendous in Chicago. You don't want to add to the stress by getting on a road or highway that is undergoing some construction. If you are a frequent commuter in to the city or to the suburbs, road conditions can greatly impact your travel time. If things are really hairy on the roads, mere miles can turn into hours.

There are a number of major highways running through and to Chicago. These expressways can become some of the most congested streets in the city. They often times look like parking lots rather that highways. After you travel around a bit, you'll get a felling for the traffic situation along your route. It might be smart to have a few alternate routes incase of an accident or weather, which can really mess up your travel plans.

Sometimes it might even be better to take public transportation rather than trying to drive around in the city. However if driving is your only option, you'll want to know what going on with the roads you're driving on. In addition to the road conditions it's always a good idea to check you local weather forecast.

The I-Pass is an electronic toll pass that commuters can use so they don't need to stop and wait in line to pay a toll. If you travel through frequent toll stations, this option might help you shorten your travel time.

If you are traveling in, out, or through Chicago, the following numbers may be helpful on determining road conditions, closures, and repair schedules. Checking out road conditions before you leave the house can save you valuable time as well as avoiding a motorway nightmare.
